DinnerData is a speculative design project about future food. Studies have shown how all our senses are involved in the experience of eating. What we see has a huge impact on how we perceive taste. I suggest that instead of using this knowledge for pushing sales, we could help people make better choices around food.
This project also touches upon some concerns around the food industry. What we eat today is mostly processed food, we do not have much knowledge about preparing and storing food any more, which results in a great amount of it being wasted. Constant trends and food scares make us doubt what a healthy diet is. The food industry is unsustainable, it is the main cause of many environmental issues.
Designers have a growing responsibility to facilitate a change. Given how vital our perception is, could the appearance of food guide us to a healthier, more responsible and more sustainable diet?
